“Booster, booster, be a booster. Don’t be grouchy like a rooster. Booster, booster, be a booster. And, BOOST our Bible school!” When I was just a kid, I loved singing that song and throwing my fist into the air at the end of it. That’s the kind of enthusiasm I pray would ignite in all our hearts for Bible school. My first memory of Bible school was when I was very young. We would listen to Bible stories, sing songs and color pictures. This is how I first began to form my feelings for God, Christ, the Bible and church.
In a fifth grade Bible class, the teacher put “the steps of salvation” on the black board. I learned how to become a Christian in Bible class and was baptized into Christ. As a teenager, Bible class gave me opportunity not only to find God’s answers to my many questions but to get to know other Christians among my peers. These friends were a real boost to my confidence and my teachers were a great encouragement to me as a young Christian. I had the privilege to teach my first Bible class when I was just a teenager. It was a small class of fifth graders. I used paper bag puppets to tell them the Bible story. Just after graduating high school, I co-taught an adult class with an elder on the books of Joshua, Judges and Ruth. It was a tremendous challenge, but I learned so much and everyone was so encouraging to me. Since becoming a preacher, one of my favorite things to do is teach Bible class. I’ve learned so much from teaching and it is a wonderful blessing to know that I might be used by God to help put His word into the hearts of others. What about you? Did you ever go to Bible school when you were a child? A teenager? An adult? What do you remember about Bible school? Have you ever been blessed to be a Bible school teacher or an assistant? Is Bible school an important part of your life as a Christian? Does your family come to enjoy the blessings of Bible school and to be a blessing to others in Bible school? Are you among those who are making a difference for Christ in our Bible School? “Moreover, as for me, far be it from me that I should sin against the LORD in ceasing to pray for you; but I will teach you the good and the right way” (1 Samuel 12:23).
